We are all foreign-born or the descendants of foreign-born, and the distinctions are to be made between us they should rightly be on some other ground than indigenousness. The early colonists came over with motives no less colonial than the later. They did not come to be assimilated in an American melting-pot. They did not come to adopt the culture of the American Indian. They had not the smallest intention of "giving themselves without reservation " to the new country. They came to get freedom to live as they wanted. They came to escape from the stifling air and chaos of the old world; they came to make their fortune in new land. They invented no new social framework . Rather they brought over bodily the old ways to which they were conservative beyond belief. Their pioneer daring was reserved for the objective conquest of material resources. In their folk ways, in their social and political institutions, they were, like every colonial people, slavishly imitative of the mother-country. So that, in spite of the "revolution," our whole legal and political system remained more English than the English, petrified and unchanging, while in England law developed to meet the needs of the changing times.                                                                                                                     This paragraph states we all came from different parts of the world including our ancestors. We should not be judged by our culture or appearance. We did not come to destroy or be destroyed, instead we came to have a second opportunity. Hoping to live a better life and work towards it, to help build and continue to grow. We brought our knowledge to share it however not forgetting our roots and history. They hoped that they can learn to live with each or despite some differences. They wanted to be a part of the country not change it.                                                                                             I choose this paragraph because the message is important to society today. Some people will not understand your point of view without any knowledge. It is important to have a point of view with reason and background information. Many successful people are from all over the world. You have to work together to build a strong society it can be based on a specific race, there has to be will and thrive. Success is for those who seek it, it is not based on race, age or gender. Anyone can be a part of positive society as long as the opportunity is given.

Some of the negative view of government are related to politics. The fact that Democrats were more concerned about government power when Bush was president and Republicans are more concerned about it with Obama as president shows that some people will b negative about the government simply because of political partisanship. Additionally, there are clear philosophical and ideological differences in views of the government that great the Dynamic tension that exists in any democratic system, with conservatives generally favoring less government and liberals favoring more government.
This passage is telling us how government is negatively viewed by the different political parties. The population of people are more involved in government when their opposite party is in power. That is because each political party has different views, which is how people determine who's side they're on Democratic or Republican. What issues are they including, which issues are considered unimportant and are being left out, are these issues beneficial to or oppose a threat. We elect government to protect and serve the people, which is why when things begin to fall apart someone is not doing their job and the people become disappointed. There are many promises made before, during and after re-election that are not finalized which is why the government is viewed negatively.                                                                                                            I choose this paragraph because it pertains to the theories of government, an example is key issues which are used in both parties. I also thought it was important to look beyond public issues which are thrown to diffuse other problems but do more research.
